Camel Safaris in LanzaroteThey are called ‘camel safaris’, but what you will really ride is a dromedary! Coming from Yaiza, you can find them shortly after the ‘fire-devil’ sign that marks the boundaries of the Timanfaya National Park.
Once there, you’ll be invited to sit on one of either side of the wooden seats placed on top of the single hump and go for a 20-minute ride across volcanic terrain of the outskirts of the Timanfaya Park. The camelleros (dromedary handlers) make sure all passengers are equally balanced by using small sandbags to weight down children or light-weighted adults. And up we go! Watch out when the dromedary rises to its feet, as the seat tends to lurch forward. The camel station includes a café, toilets and a small museum (Museo de Rocas) displaying geological specimens collected in the park and some information about the dromedaries. |
