Getting from the Airport

Lanzarote’s airport is located about 5 km from Arrecife, the capital of the island. As in almost all the airports spread around the world, you will find all the services you need to get to your final destination in or outside the arrival lounge (llegadas in Spanish). Tourism is the main source of income; therefore good care is taken when it comes to providing visitors with all the transportation facilities. If you don’t have a package travel arrangement, do check out the alternatives available at the airport.

Taxis: Right outside the arrival lounge you’ll find the taxi rank. Getting into Arrecife will take you around 5 to 10 minutes and could cost you about € 6,00. Be aware that there might be a small extra charge if you have much luggage. Trips to the major holiday resorts Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca can cost from € 9,00 to € 27,00 according to the distance.

Bus: There are regular guagas (that’s how buses are called in Lanzarote) between the airport and Arrecife. The journey by bus takes longer than travelling by taxi, but it is also considerably cheaper. You will need around 30 minutes to get to the capital. Unfortunately, there are no busses serving this connection during the night and the last leaves the airport shortly after 19.00 hrs.

Car Hire: Most of the international car rental companies and many Spanish companies will be represented at the airport. However, you will always get a better price if you book in advance. Internet car rentals are probably the most competitively priced, for example, check out the site of Strawberry Autos. If you are driving from the airport, the distances to Arrecife and the south-eastern resort Costa Teguise are about 5 respectively 10 km; to the southern resorts Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca around 8 respectively 35 km.
