Guinate & Parque Tropical

Going south on the road from the Mirador del Río for about 4 km (2.5 miles), at one point a minor road takes off to the right leading you to the small and tranquil village of Guinate, whose biggest attraction is the Parque Tropical at the foot of a steep hillside behind the village.

Founded under British management in 1990, this pleasant park is a true paradise for bird lovers. On 45,000 sq. metres spread out on terraces featuring numerous water cascades, streams, ponds filled with koi fish and beautiful gardens, you will find some 1,300 exotic birds representing around 300 species, as well as some monkeys and lemurs.

Favoured by young and old are the very entertaining shows with parrots and cockatoos, where these colourful birds perform amazing tricks like driving model pick-up trucks, riding toy bicycles, pulling toy carts, and many more. The Parque Tropical is open daily from 10.00 to 17.00 hrs (admission fee).

Only a short distance away is Guinate’s other attraction, the Mirador de Guinate, a viewpoint providing magnificent views over the Atlantic and the Isla Graciosa. Further in the distance you will even see the outlines of the small islets of Montaña Clara and Alegranza.
