Exploring Lanzarote's Centre

A trip through Lanzarote’s centre is also full of interest, although not as blessed with spectacular nature attractions like the north and the south of the island. Endowed with the most moderate climate of the island – due to its location between the windier north and the sunnier and hotter south – central Lanzarote is also one of the more fertile parts of the island, with some thriving agricultural villages, such as Mozaga and Tiagua. This area also features two interesting agriculture related museums, the Manrique-inspired Casa Museo del Campesino and the award-winning Museo Agrícola El Patio, as well as Manrique’s ingenious Monumento al Campesino.

It is also this part of the island, which boasts historic Teguise, Lanzarote’s former capital, with its dignified colonial aspect and ambiance. On Sundays, the island’s most famous and largest market attracts thousands of visitors from all over the island, flooding the centre of the town.

And – even if you are not particularly hooked on César Manrique – a visit of the César Manrique Foundation in Taro de Tahiche is an art experience of the very special kind – not to be missed!
