Walking & Hiking in Lanzarote
For all keen walkers, the island offers great opportunities for practicing their favourite sport while discovering Lanzarote’s natural beauties at close range on fixed senderos (footpaths), established by the Cabildo Insular (Island Government) according to the Plan de senderos (Footpaths’ Plan) to promote rural tourism on the island. Especially built for walkers to enjoy their outings to the full extent without risking any personal damage because of the often rough terrain, these footpaths include many newly created and several ancient paths that the early inhabitants once used to get around. There are also some guided walks or hikes on offer, which include climbing of volcanic peaks, crawling through volcanic caves and walking across the lava fields of the Timanfaya National Park. Walking is indeed the best way to explore Lanzarote’s stunning volcanic landscapes and to actually feel the intriguing ambience of this spectacular island all around you!
